The Mendota Martingale Show Lead is a lightweight round braid leash with a slide that will prevent the leash from sliding lower down the dog's head. The maximum neck circumference of the size 8-inch martingale is 14-15 inches, and it can fit a small neck circumference by cinching up the slack with the leather tab slider. It is recommended for small breeds due to its light weight and thin lead. The martingale leash can be used for conventional walks for small breeds. The martingale leash would not be suitable for first leads for puppies, according to one answer. The 8-inch martingale would nicely adjust for a beagle puppy that had a neck measuring 10 inches. Similarly, the martingale might fit a 20 lb French bulldog, but it would be borderline. There are three sizes available for the Mendota Martingale Show Lead: 8 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches. For a whippet, the size recommended would be the smallest 8-inch size.
