The Magnaspot performs very well with great penetration through materials like wood, brick, and even stone. It is sensitive and starts indicating from at least 4 feet away. However, it can be noisy, and the one-button feature for power and silence is a bit of a pain. The Magnepull kit is a great concept, but its execution is not so successful. While the magnet is reasonably strong, it can only penetrate drywall. If you have a sheer wall behind that drywall, it will not work. On top of that, insulation can stop the Magnepull dead in its tracks. The kit comes in a steel carrying case, which may not be suitable as the magnets stick to it and can create pinch points. Overall, the Magnaspot gets 4 stars, Magnepull gets 1 star, and the carrying case 2 stars.
