The GE Profile Opal Ice Maker is an upgraded version of the original FirstBuild Opal. This version comes with a side tank for more ice capacity and a SmartHQ app with an easy-to-use UI. The internal water reservoir must be cleaned every few weeks to ensure proper functionality, with a button on the back of the machine to initiate the cleaning cycle using bleach and water. While it does not have a refrigeration system to keep ice from melting, it makes great ice for daily use and tailgating. However, many customers report issues with mold buildup, despite regular cleaning. In addition, some customers report internal parts disintegrating and the machine breaking down soon after the warranty period.
